In a significant development, the final electoral roll for Jammu and Kashmir has been unveiled, revealing a total of 86.93 lakh registered voters.
Chief Electoral Officer Pandurang K Pole disclosed that the updated roll includes 44.34 lakh males and 42.58 lakh females, with an addition of over 2.31 lakh new voters.
The release of the electoral roll marks a crucial step towards organizing upcoming polls in the Union Territory.
The publication ceremony took place across polling stations, offices of electoral registration officers, district election officers, and is now accessible on the CEO’s website. A spokesperson highlighted the inclusion of 2.31 lakh new voters during this revision.

CEO Pandurang K Pole informed that 86,000 names were removed due to factors such as death or relocation, while 1.45 lakh elector details were corrected during the process. The current elector population stands at 86.93 lakhs, showcasing an improved elector population ratio from 0.59 to 0.60 and a gender ratio from 924 to 954.
The meticulous process adhered to the Election Commission of India’s guidelines for a special summary revision with a qualifying date of January 1, 2024. This involved creating 259 new polling stations in consultation with political parties.
District election officers engaged stakeholders, including recognized state and national parties, by organizing meetings and briefings.
They encouraged participation in the process by appointing booth level agents for assistance in addition, deletion, correction, and transposition of eligible voters.

The Election Registration Officers accepted claims and objections, resolving them by January 12, including addressing demographically similar and photo similar entries at the part and AC level. Special AEROs facilitated the inclusion of eligible voters among Kashmir migrants through dedicated camps.
Notably, efforts were made to cover specially-abled persons and individuals above 80 years old to ensure their representation on the electoral rolls. The comprehensive process reflects a commitment to an inclusive and accurate electoral representation in Jammu and Kashmir.
