33 Schools/Colleges/Roads Renamed in J&K after Martyrs
In a move to honor the sacrifice and contributions of martyrs and eminent personalities, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s General Administration Department has sanctioned the renaming of various infrastructure/assets across the region.
Government Order No.515-JK(GAD) of 2024, dated January 30, 2024, has approved the renaming of schools, colleges, roads, playgrounds, and other facilities after individuals who have made significant contributions or laid down their lives for the nation.
Among the notable renamings are the Late Himayun Muzamil Bhat, Dy.SP, being honored at Government Degree College (Boys) in Anantnag, and Late Masroor Ali Wani, Inspector, at Government Boys High School in Narwara, Srinagar.
The renaming extends to various districts, including Jammu, Udhampur, Poonch, and Ramban, with each location paying tribute to local heroes such as Late Abdul Majid in Poonch and Late Tanveer Ahmed in Jammu.
The order emphasizes that concerned Administrative Secretaries will take immediate steps to update records and implement the changes. Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu are tasked with personally overseeing the renaming process in their respective divisions.
Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to organize appropriate events to commemorate the renaming of these infrastructure/assets.

No. GAD-ADMOLLE/46/2021-09-GAD-Part(1) has been circulated to various authorities, including Financial Commissioners, the Director General of Police, and Principal Secretaries to the Government, among others.
