Provincial Holiday Declared for Urs of Sheikh Noor-Ud-Din Sahib in Kashmir
Srinagar, October 28, 2024 — The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a provincial holiday in the Kashmir region on October 30, 2024, in observance of the Urs of Sheikh Noor-Ud-Din Noorani (RA), a revered Sufi saint in the valley. This decision was issued under Government Order No. 1833-JK(GAD) of 2024, dated October 28, 2024.
According to the General Administration Department, the holiday applies specifically to the Kashmir Province. The order follows last year’s Government Order No. 1582-JK(GAD), dated December 11, 2023, which outlined provincial holidays for 2024.
Sheikh Noor-Ud-Din Noorani, known as the patron saint of Kashmir, holds a significant place in the spiritual heritage of the region. The annual observance of his Urs draws devotees from across Kashmir, who participate in prayers and gatherings to honor his teachings of peace, compassion, and humility.
The directive has been communicated to all departments, including the police, government administration, and educational institutions within Kashmir Province, with instructions to observe the holiday.
