Important Update on School Reopening in Kashmir: New Order Issued for Teachers

Srinagar, February 20: As the winter chill holds sway over Kashmir, the School Education Department stands resolute in its decision regarding the reopening of schools, ensuring both teachers and students adhere to the previously announced timeline without any adjustments.

Offering clarity amidst inquiries, Administrative Secretary Piyush Singla reaffirmed to news agency that there are no contemplations of extending the winter break for teaching staff. “We are steadfast in our commitment to the scheduled date for the return of teachers and students,” he asserted.

Singla emphasized the department’s expectation for all teaching personnel to promptly resume their duties and report to their respective schools on February 21, signaling a swift transition from the extended break.

The department’s decision resonates against the backdrop of a carefully planned phased closure of schools implemented back in November 2023, strategically spanning from November 28, 2023, to February 29, 2024, across the Kashmir division.

During this period, primary level classes up to 8th standard experienced a prolonged winter break, extending from November 28 to February 29, 2024. Conversely, students from 9th standard onwards up to 12th standard were granted a slightly shorter break, commencing from December 11, 2023, through February 29, 2024.

In accordance with the directives issued by the School Education Department, teaching staff are mandated to resume their duties on February 21, 2024, prioritizing their presence to facilitate the smooth preparation of upcoming examinations.

This resolute decision underscores the department’s unwavering commitment to upholding the academic calendar, ensuring minimal disruptions despite the inclement weather conditions gripping the region.
