JKSCERT Changes 1st to 8th Class Exam Dates in Kashmir; Check New Dates Here
Srinagar, January 8: Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT) has announced a modification in the schedule for formative assessments up to the 8th standard.
Originally planned for the last week of December 2023, these assessments will now take place in the first week of March 2024.
The decision stems from considerations related to winter vacations in the region. The Student Assessment and Evaluation (SA&E) scheme, applicable up to Class 8th, had outlined the timeline for assessments in both summer and winter zone schools for the Academic Session 2023-24.
According to the Director of JKSCERT, as communicated through Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the adjustment aims to accommodate students’ convenience in line with the winter vacation schedule announced by JKUT.
The communique emphasizes that the formative assessments in winter zone schools will now be conducted by respective schools by or before the first week of March 2024.
In October 2023, JKSCERT had introduced a standardized format for recording formative assessments under the SA&E scheme. This common format was designed to streamline assessment practices up to Class 8th, bringing uniformity to the recording process.
Formative assessment, as defined by JKSCERT, involves various formal and informal evaluation methods conducted by teachers during the learning process. The primary goal is to adjust teaching and learning activities to enhance student attainment.
The establishment of the SA&E scheme for Class 8th across government and recognized schools aligns with the provisions in the National Education Policy-2020 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2019.
Despite continuous orientation efforts by the Council, stakeholders expressed the need for a standardized format, leading to the development of the ‘Common’ format for recording formative assessments.
JKSCERT has not only introduced a format for recording formative assessments but has also extended this initiative to cover Co-curricular Components, along with a result sheet.
These standardized tools aim for wider dissemination among concerned schools, fostering a more consistent and organized assessment approach.
