4G/5G High-Speed Internet Suspended in 2 J&K Districts

High-speed internet services have been suspended in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. This suspension comes ahead of the expected approval of the Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, by the Rajya Sabha.

The bill, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha, aims to include the Gadda Brahmin, Koli, Paddari Tribe, and Pahari Ethnic Group in the region’s Scheduled Tribes list.

The suspension of mobile internet services and the reduction of internet speeds in these districts are reportedly precautionary measures taken to maintain law and order amidst anticipation of potential unrest.

Local social activist Guftar Ahmed has raised concerns about the internet shutdown, questioning the necessity of such measures.

He highlighted the impact of the bill on the Gujjar Bakarwal Community of Jammu and Kashmir.

As the region awaits further developments regarding the bill, the suspension of high-speed internet services underscores the complexities surrounding legislative processes and governance in Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities have highlighed that the suspension of mobile internet services and the reduction in internet speeds in these districts is temporary and will be restored at an appropriate time.

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region amidst sensitive legislative discussions
