J&K Police Cancels Transfer Orders in Kashmir

In a recent turn of events, the Jammu & Kashmir police has reversed the transfers it had initiated on February 25, following the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) revision of its order.

The zonal police headquarters in Kashmir took this action, as reported by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in response to the ECI’s latest directive.

The Election Commission, in its modified order issued on Tuesday, granted exemptions to States and Union Territories with five Parliamentary constituencies.

This revision provided a significant reprieve for the J&K government, sparing it from the need to implement another wave of transfers.

Previously, the poll body’s directive stipulated that officers transferred out of a district could not be posted within the same Parliamentary constituency.

However, this mandate exempted only States and UTs with up to two segments, as highlighted by (KNO).

This development underscores the intricate dynamics at play as administrative decisions intersect with electoral processes, particularly in regions like Kashmir.

The swift response by the police authorities underscores the adaptability required in navigating such regulatory adjustments.
