R.R Swain Assumes Role of Jammu and Kashmir’s 17th DGP
Srinagar, Oct 31, 2023: In a solemn ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar, R.R Swain took the helm as the 17th Director General of Police (DGP) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event, which signified the transition of leadership within the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was graced by the presence of distinguished officials, including A.K Choudhary, the Special DG Crime for J&K, and ADGsP S.J.M Gillani, M.K Sinha, and Vijay Kumar.
Other key figures, such as Alok Kumar, the Director of Fire & Emergency Services, J&K, and Vikramjeet Singh, Commissioner Secretary of Industries & Commerce, participated in this momentous occasion. The attendance of IGP V. K Birdi and IGP (CIV/Hqrs) B.S Tuti further underscored the significance of this transition.
R.R Swain, a seasoned officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), belonging to the 1991 batch, boasts a career laden with service in pivotal positions within the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
His journey has taken him through various key roles, including SDPO Kothi Bagh, SP Ramban, SP Kargil, SP Poonch, SSP Kathua, SSP Jammu, SSP Srinagar, AIG (P/W) PHQ, and DIG Vigilance. Notably, in November 2006, Shri Swain embarked on a noteworthy deputation to the Government of India, where he undertook prestigious responsibilities.
Of particular significance was his return to the J&K Police in June 2020, when he assumed the leadership of the CID wing. Today, R.R. Swain has stepped into the office of the Director General of Police, marking the pinnacle of his career in law enforcement.
In his new role, DGP J&K R.R. Swain wasted no time and promptly convened a meeting at the Police Headquarters. This gathering witnessed the participation of senior officers from the PHQ and various police divisions. The heads of different departments and senior officers took the opportunity to brief the new DGP on the operations and activities of their respective wings.
