New School Timing Announced in Kashmir as Temperatures Soar
In response to the ongoing heatwave, the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of School Education has decided to alter the school timings. The decision follows numerous appeals from parents and other stakeholders concerned about the extreme temperatures.
Effective immediately, starting July 23, 2024, all government and recognized private schools in the Kashmir Division will hold classes from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. This new schedule applies to both rural and urban schools up to the Higher Secondary level.
Staff, including both teaching and non-teaching personnel, are required to be present from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. These revised timings will remain in place until August 10, 2024.
This decision comes after weather forecasts indicated that the heatwave conditions are likely to persist. The move aims to ensure the safety and comfort of students and staff during this period.
This information has been communicated to various officials, including the Principal Secretary to the Government, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, and all Deputy Commissioners and Chief Education Officers. The Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (both Urban and Rural) has also been informed.
