New Traffic Advisory Issued for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Travel

In an effort to streamline traffic flow and ensure safety on the road, the Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir has announced a new traffic plan effective from January 30th onwards.

Starting from January 30th, one-way traffic will be permitted on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, also known as the Srinagar-Kargil road. This decision is subject to favorable weather conditions and road suitability.

Passengers and operators of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are strongly advised to consider traveling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) during daytime hours. Nighttime travel is discouraged due to the potential risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

Additionally, operators and owners of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) are urged to avoid overloading and to ensure they carry an adequate amount of fuel for their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is emphasized that vehicle owners thoroughly check the fitness of their vehicles and carry ample fuel before embarking on their journey.

HMVs with only 06 and 10 tyres will be permitted to ply through Dhar road as per the traffic plan.

For January 28th, subject to favorable weather and road conditions, the traffic plan allows the movement of LMVs, Passenger/Private Cars, HMVs, and Load Carriers from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). Commuters are reminded to adhere to lane discipline for a smoother flow of traffic.

Security Forces (SFs) convoy movement will also be permitted from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, ensuring their smooth passage in alignment with the overall traffic plan.

Regarding the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, vehicular movement will be allowed from both sides, facilitating travel between Srinagar and Kargil. LMVs will be given priority, followed by HMVs, with specified time slots for their movement. It’s important to note that no vehicle will be allowed after the designated cut-off timings.

SFs convoys traveling from Srinagar to Kargil and vice versa will adhere to specific departure timings to minimize disruption to civilian traffic.

As for the Mughal road, it remains blocked due to snow accumulation, and travelers are advised to seek alternative routes.

In light of these updates, people planning to travel on NH-44 are advised to confirm the road status from the respective Traffic control units before commencing their journey. Contact information for these units in Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, and PCR Kishtwar is provided for convenience.
