Jammu & Kashmir CEO Reveals Draft Reservation Proposal for 77 Municipalities

Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has taken a significant step by unveiling a draft reservation proposal for 77 urban local bodies within the Union Territory. This move aims to promote inclusivity and representation in local governance.

According to an official notification obtained by ProKashmiri (PK), the CEO of J&K has presented a proposal outlining the reservation of wards for women, scheduled castes, and scheduled tribes in these urban local bodies.

The notification also invites objections and suggestions regarding the proposal, which can be submitted within the next seven days to the CEO’s office.

Under this proposal, the CEO suggests reserving 25 wards for women in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Additionally, 25 wards are proposed for women, 10 for scheduled castes, and two for scheduled tribes in the Jammu Municipal Corporation.

These developments come in anticipation of municipal polls scheduled to take place in Jammu and Kashmir later this year, expected to be held in October and November.
