JKSSB: 273 Naib Tehsildar, 2,144 Patwari Posts – An Important Update

The Jammu and Kashmir government has come under scrutiny after a Right to Information (RTI) query revealed a stark discrepancy in recruitment for key revenue department positions.

While 273 Naib Tehsildar and 2,144 Patwari posts fall under the direct quota category, only 38 candidates have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) so far.

This information, obtained by an RTI activist, raises troubling questions about the status of the remaining vacancies. Are they already filled, or is the government yet to initiate the referral process for these positions? While the government remains tight-lipped on the matter, reliable sources within the J&K Revenue Department paint a different picture.

“There is a genuine need for both Naib Tehsildars and Patwaris within the department,” a source, who wished to remain anonymous, told TSL reporter.

“These positions handle crucial land-related matters, and the current shortage is impacting efficiency and public service delivery.”

The low number of referrals also fuels concerns about the government’s commitment to filling direct quota positions. Direct quota recruitment aims to provide opportunities for specific communities within the state.

The perceived neglect of these vacancies could lead to accusations of unfair practices and lack of transparency.

Meanwhile, some aspirants said “The government needs to come clean and address the concerns of both job aspirants and the general public.”

As of now, the J&K government has not issued any official clarification on the matter. The RTI activist, along with several concerned citizens, are hoping for a swift and transparent response that sheds light on the fate of the remaining vacancies.posts

Until then, the question of why just 38 candidates have been referred for 2,417 direct quota positions continues to hang in the air, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over the recruitment process and the future of these crucial government posts.
