Good News! JKBOSE Announces National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme

In a recent development, the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education has issued a scholarship notification for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) 2023-24. This scheme is aimed at Class VIII students in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Under this Centrally Sponsored Scheme, the board will conduct the NMMSS examination in February-March 2024 (exact date to be notified later). To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in Class VIII with a minimum of 55% marks in their Class VII examination. However, there is a 5% relaxation for SC/ST students.

Key Eligibility Criteria:

1. The student must be studying in a Government/Government-aided/Local Body School.
2. The overall family income should not exceed Rs. 3.50 Lakh per annum.
3. Reservation will be provided to different categories of students as per the UT of J&K’s reservation policy.

To avail the scholarship, students must pass two tests: Mental Aptitude Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) with at least 40% marks in aggregate. For SC/ST students, the cut-off is 32%.

The scholarship duration is four years, and students need to maintain a minimum of 55% marks in Class VIII, 60% marks in Class X (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates), and clear promotions in the first attempt from Class IX to X and Class XI to XII.

Number of Scholarships:

1069 scholarships will be awarded based on merit, with each selected student receiving Rs. 12,000 per annum, totaling Rs. 48,000 for the entire duration from Class IX to XII.

Examination Details:

The NMMSS Examination consists of two papers:
1. Paper-1: Mental Ability Test (MAT) with 90 questions and a maximum of 90 marks.
2. Paper-2: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) with 90 questions and a maximum of 90 marks.

Children with special needs will be given extra time as applicable under rules.

Prospective candidates can download the application form and detailed information from the JKBOSE website (www.jkbosc.nic.in). The completed application form, attested by the Head of the Institution, along with required documents and a pay-in-slip of Rs.60.00, must reach the office of the Chief Education Officer (Designated District Nodal Officer, NMMS Scheme) by or before 31st January 2024.
