Get Ready: Snow Predicted in Kashmir Valley, Check Forecast
The weather department in Jammu and Kashmir has issued a forecast indicating the likelihood of light rain and snow across various regions from Monday night through Tuesday morning.
According to a meteorological department official, the upcoming days, particularly February 28-29, are expected to bring partly to generally cloudy weather with chances of light rain and snow in isolated areas.
Moving into March 1-3, there’s a potential for light to moderate rainfall and snowfall in most areas, with heavier precipitation anticipated in some middle and higher elevations on March 2 and 3. Additionally, thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds may occur in a few locations during this period.
Furthermore, night temperatures have seen fluctuations, with some areas experiencing a slight decrease while others observe a minor rise. For instance, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.0°C, marking a decline from the previous night’s 0.5°C. This temperature deviation of 2.0°C below normal for this time of year is noteworthy for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Similarly, Qazigund registered a minimum of minus 2.2°C, down from minus 1.6°C, with a deviation of 2.6°C below normal. Pahalgam, known for its scenic beauty, recorded a low of minus 7.0°C, showcasing a deviation of 3.5°C below normal. Kokernag and Kupwara also experienced below-normal temperatures, highlighting the impact of the changing weather conditions across various regions.
Notably, Gulmarg, renowned for its skiing activities, observed a minimum temperature of minus 9.0°C, indicating a deviation of 3.2°C below normal.
In contrast, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.9°C, reflecting a deviation of 3.7°C below normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Other areas such as Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also witnessed varying temperatures, underlining the diverse weather patterns prevalent in different parts of the region.
Although the 40-day harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai-Kalan’ concluded on January 29, followed by the 20-day ‘Chillai-Khurd’ ending on February 19, Kashmir is currently experiencing the middle 10-day phase known as ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold), which will conclude on March 1.
