Red Alert Issued: Kashmir Prepares for Very Heavy Snowfall, MeT Issues Advisory
The Meteorological Department in Kashmir has issued a weather advisory predicting the arrival of an active Western disturbance that is expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding areas starting from the evening of 29th February.
The disturbance is forecasted to bring widespread moderate rain and snow to the region from the night of 29th February to the afternoon of 3rd March, with peak activity anticipated on 2nd March.
The system is likely to result in heavy to very heavy rain and snow over the Pirpanjal Range of Jammu Division, as well as the middle and higher reaches of Kashmir Division, including areas such as Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, and others.
The anticipated weather conditions may lead to disruptions in surface and air transport, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other major roads in the middle and higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
Residents in snow-bound areas are advised to refrain from venturing into sloppy and avalanche-prone areas due to safety concerns.
Moreover, there is a heightened risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. Farmers are advised to suspend all farm operations during the first week of March to mitigate potential risks.
The public is urged to stay informed about the evolving weather situation and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize disruptions.
