Snow and Rain Expected in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, March 8: Night temperatures have fallen across various locations in the Kashmir Valley, with Gulmarg recording a chilly minus 7.6°C on Friday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar saw a minimum temperature of 1.8°C, down from 2.1°C the previous night. This drop of 1.5°C below the seasonal average is uncommon for this time of year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Qazigund registered a low of 0.4°C, significantly cooler than the previous night’s 1.8°C, marking a deviation of 1.8°C below normal for this gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, experienced a dip to minus 3.4°C from minus 0.4°C, indicating a deviation of 2.0°C below normal.
Similarly, Kokernag, another popular destination in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.5°C compared to 0.1°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 1.4°C below normal.
In Kupwara town, the mercury dropped to 1.1°C from 2.5°C, marking a deviation of 0.7°C below normal.
Gulmarg, known for its world-famous skiing facilities in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, witnessed a substantial drop from minus 4.2°C to minus 7.6°C, indicating a deviation of 6.9°C below normal.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum of 9.6°C, deviating by 9.4°C below normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Other areas such as Banihal recorded a low of 1.2°C, Batote 3.6°C, and Bhaderwah 1.8°C, the official added.
The weather forecast indicates mainly dry conditions in Jammu and Kashmir until March 10. However, from March 12 to 14, light to moderate rain/snow is expected across most regions.
