Big News: J&K Transport Department Rolls Out Smart Card Driving License

Jammu, January 29: In a significant development, the Transport Department of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has initiated centralized printing and dispatch of Driving Licenses, bringing relief to license card applicants.

Approximately two lakh Driving Licenses, pending for over one and a half years, are now being printed in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport, Government of India.

The department aims to print and dispatch all pending Driving Licenses within the next two months.

Transport Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara stated that the Motor Vehicle Department has introduced substantial improvements in the new cards, focusing on durability and standards.

The decision to issue QR code-enabled Smart Cards, in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, marks a significant departure from the issuance of conventional laminated cards.

Transport Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara stated that the Motor Vehicle Department has introduced substantial improvements in the new cards, focusing on durability and standards.

The decision to issue QR code-enabled Smart Cards, in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, marks a significant departure from the issuance of conventional laminated cards.

Furthermore, the department has coordinated with the Postal Department to ensure swift delivery of licenses through Speed Post, with delivery times ranging from 24 to 72 hours depending on the distance.

Applicants will receive a tracking ID via SMS from the Postal Department on their Sarathi registered mobile number, facilitating easy monitoring of their Driving License delivery.

This streamlined approach underscores the commitment of the J&K Transport Department to modernize its services and provide efficient solutions to citizens.

With the introduction of Smart Card Driving Licenses and expedited delivery processes, the department aims to enhance customer satisfaction and improve overall service delivery standards.
