Srinagar, October 14 – In a recent development, a local court in Srinagar has granted an interim bail to the suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Adil Mushtaq Sheikh. Sheikh had been facing charges in a case registered against him at the Nowgam police station.
Reports from Srinagar, as per information obtained by Kashmir Dot Com, indicate that the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption in Srinagar issued the interim bail order for DySP Adil Mushtaq Sheikh.
The interim bail is effective from October 14, 2023, through to October 21, 2023. The charges brought against Sheikh include allegations of corruption, extortion, and fraud.
Advocate Farooq Ahmad Kathwari, who served as the legal representative for the accused, confirmed the grant of interim bail, noting that it was secured on a surety of 50 thousand rupees.
The arrest and subsequent suspension of DySP Adil Mushtaq Sheikh were in connection with FIR no 149/2023, which encompassed sections 7, 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with sections 167, 193, 201, 210, 218, and 221 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This information was shared by the Srinagar police department on social media.
In a parallel development, the government took action by attaching the officer to the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir during the period of suspension.
This decision was in accordance with Rule 31(2) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956.
The suspension came into effect from September 21, 2023, which coincided with the date of DySP Adil Mushtaq Sheikh’s arrest in connection with FIR No.149/2023. The order was officially issued by Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Home, Raj Kumar Goyal.
