Senior IPS Officers Transferred; Altaf Khan Is New DIG South Kashmir

In a recent development, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s Home Department, Civil Secretariat, Jammu/Srinagar, has issued Government Order No.: 55-Home of 2024 on 27th January 2024, detailing several transfers and postings of police officers. These changes are aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and effectiveness within the region.

Shri Deepak Kumar, IPS, formerly Director Prosecution, J&K, has been appointed as the new Director General, Prisons, J&K. This move is expected to bring fresh leadership to the prisons department and streamline its operations for better management.

Shri S.J.M. Gillani, IPS, who previously served as ADGP Armed, J&K, has been reassigned as ADGP Railways, J&K. This change is part of a strategic realignment of responsibilities within the police force to optimize its functioning.

Additionally, Shri Sunil Kumar, IPS, formerly ADGP Railways, J&K, will now serve as Director Prosecution, J&K. His expertise in legal matters is expected to contribute significantly to the prosecution department’s operations.

Shri Vijay Kumar, IPS, currently serving as ADGP Law & Order, J&K, will temporarily take on additional responsibilities as ADGP Armed, J&K, and Commandant General, HG/CD/ SDRF, J&K, until further orders are issued. This dual role is aimed at ensuring smooth coordination between law enforcement agencies and maintaining public order.

In another significant move, Shri Sunil Gupta, IPS, DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, will now serve as DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, while also holding the additional charge of DIG, Rajouri-Poonch Range. This restructuring of DIG postings is aimed at optimizing resources and enhancing operational efficiency.

Furthermore, Shri Sujit Kumar, IPS, formerly DIG Central Kashmir Range, is appointed as DIG CID Kashmir, where his investigative skills will be crucial in tackling complex criminal activities in the region.

Shri M. Suleman Choudhary, IPS, who previously served as DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, will now serve as DIG (Pers) PHQ, contributing to the strategic planning and policy formulation at the Police Headquarters.

Shri Shakti Kumar Pathak, IPS, former DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, is reassigned as Assistant Director, Anti Corruption Bureau, with additional responsibilities as Director, Anti Corruption Bureau, highlighting the government’s commitment to combating corruption effectively.

Dr. Mohd. Haseeb Mughal, IPS, who previously served as DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, is appointed as DIG Traffic, Jammu, to oversee and manage traffic-related issues in the region.

Shri Rayees Mohammad Bhat, IPS, former DIG South Kashmir Range, will now serve as DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range, contributing to the maintenance of law and order in the region.

Shri Shridhar Patil, IPS, who previously served as DIG Traffic, Jammu, is reassigned as DIG, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, to oversee security and law enforcement in the area.

Lastly, Shri Altaf Ahmad Khan, IPS, former DIG CID, Kashmir, is appointed as DIG, South Kashmir Range, with additional responsibilities as DIG Central Kashmir Range, reflecting the government’s focus on ensuring effective policing across different regions.

These transfers and postings underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
