Met Predicts Snowfall in Kashmir, Advisory For Travelers Issued
Srinagar, Jan 25: Brace yourselves, Jammu and Kashmiris! The winter chill is back with a vengeance, as the Meteorological Department (MeT) predicts snowfall and rain across the region for the next 10 days.
Light Snow Blankets Higher Reaches: Starting tonight, the 25th of January, expect light snowfall at isolated higher reaches.
This trend continues on the 26th, with the addition of light rain over the plains. While the 27th offers a brief respite with partly cloudy skies, the possibility of light snow at higher reaches towards late evening looms.
Heavier Precipitation Later in the Week: Get ready for more significant weather changes from the 28th to the 2nd of February.
These five days hold the potential for light to moderate rain or snow across many places, with the possibility increasing between the 30th of January and 2nd of February.
Travelers Beware: The weather system could lead to temporary road closures, especially on higher reaches and crucial passes like Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna Pass, Razdan Pass, and Zojila.
The MeT department advises travelers to plan their journeys accordingly, keeping the weather predictions in mind.
Minimum Temperatures Dip:
Srinagar, the summer capital, witnessed a low of minus 3.6°C, slightly warmer than the previous night’s minus 5.3°C but still 1.3°C below normal for this time of year.
