Weather Alert! Kashmir Valley Prepares for a Heavy Snowfall

In a recent weather forecast, experts predict dry conditions in Kashmir until January 24. However, from January 25-26, cloudy weather with light snow is expected at higher reaches.

Moving into January 27-28, the forecast suggests generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snow scattered across the region.

From January 29 to January 31, the anticipation grows as light to moderate rain or snow is deemed “very likely” in many places.

Additionally, there’s a possibility of scattered light rain or snow on February 1.

This weather update coincides with the ongoing ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ a 40-day harsh winter period set to conclude on January 29. It’s important to note that the end of ‘Chillai-Kalan’ doesn’t mark the end of winter; rather, it transitions into ‘Chillai-Khurd,’ lasting from January 30 to February 19, followed by ‘Chillai-Bachha’ from February 20 to March 1.

In the latest temperature readings, Gulmarg, renowned for its skiing, reported a low of minus 4.0°C, slightly higher than the previous night.

Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.0°C, below the winter average by 2.0°C. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also experienced freezing temperatures, with the weatherman hinting at a potential wet spell from January 25 to February 1.

Srinagar witnessed a low of minus 5.0°C, below the previous night’s temperature. Qazigund recorded minus 4.8°C, Pahalgam minus 6.2°C, and Kokernag minus 1.5°C. Kupwara town in north Kashmir marked a low of minus 4.9°C.

These readings highlight the chilling conditions prevailing in the region, emphasizing the need for residents to prepare for the expected changes in weather patterns.
