Weather Update: Indication of Heavy Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir

The weather forecast for the concluding days of January in Jammu and Kashmir suggests a high likelihood of substantial snowfall, with a 65% chance of occurrence.

While tourists are advised not to cancel their bookings, significant snowfall is expected in popular destinations like Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.

Except for Gulmarg, the Kashmir Valley has experienced a slight increase in minimum temperatures. Srinagar, on Saturday, recorded a temperature of minus 3.7°C, indicating a rise of 1.2°C compared to the previous night’s minus 4.9°C.

This temperature is 1.6°C below the normal average for this time of the year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund reported a minimum temperature of minus 4.0°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s minus 5.0°C, and 0.7°C below the normal average.

Pahalgam, a renowned resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.5°C, showing a 1.7°C increase from the previous night’s minus 6.3°C.

Kokernag in south Kashmir registered a minimum of minus 2.0°C, up from minus 1.4°C the previous night, and 1.9°C above normal. Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.7°C, a 1.6°C decrease from the previous night and below normal.

Gulmarg, the globally acclaimed skiing resort in north Kashmir, experienced a low of minus 4.6°C, indicating a 3.1°C increase from the previous night’s minus 3.6°C. Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.9°C, 1.2°C below normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

In other regions, Banihal reported a low of minus 1.4°C, Batote 1.9°C, and Bhaderwah minus 0.4°C.
